Traditional SNMP Management
SNMP is still the most widely used Management technology today.
Most LAN equipment and a lot of telecom equipment base their management
interfaces on SNMP.
Still, even if you are an equipment vendor, who has chosen SNMP
as your management technology there is a significant probability
that you eventually will have to deal with equipment from other
vendors, e.g. because they interact closely with your equipment.
And they may not have chosen SNMP as their technology.
Also, your customers may request that your element management system
can be accessed from their existing higher layer applications via
one of a number of other protocol technologies like CORBA, TL1 or
soon OSS-J.
Solution
Q3ADE 3G, which is designed
for general purpose Enterprise Management, includes a long list
of management features directly suited for SNMP management while
at the same time enabling management of equipment based on CMIP,
CORBA, XML and TL1.
Q3ADE 3G also provides
a range of "northbound" interfaces to higher level management/OSS
applications via CORBA, CMIP, SNMP, HTTP, OSS-J.
Q3ADE Gateway Developer (which includes Q3ADE 3G), allows you to
add your own SNMP information models dynamically to Q3ADE 3G.
Q3ADE Advanced Developer combined with Q3ADE Gateway Developer
Benefits
Q3ADE's features for SNMP Management includes:
- Generic Fault Management
Capturing and translating SNMP traps into a standardized alarm
record. C.f. the FMS
component.
- Autodiscovery and Availiability Monitoring
Discover new equipment automatically when they are introduced
into the system. Detect when an equipment/SNMP Agent falls out
or dissappears from the system and raise alarms
- Performance (QOS) Management
Monitor individual performance variables in an SNMP Agent and
raise alarms, when the value exceeds limits. Collect and forward
statistics across many agents. C.f. the PMS
component.
- Integrated view of CMIP, SNMPV1, SNMPV2c and SNMPV3 agents,
which alleviates you from the cumbersome details of security management
and protocol differences.
- Dynamic Web Server
The HTTP Gateway component
provides a dynamic web server function, where you can present
real time SNMP information by means of HTML/LHP pages.
- Scalability
The distributed and multi-threaded architecture of Q3ADE 3G enables
you to scale your system to manage virtually any number of SNMP
based equipment. You can connect any number of distributed Q3ADE
3G "nodes" into one integrated SNMP management application,
e.g. distributing the load of availability polling or performance
monitoring.
- Easy integration into your OSS and business application architecture
Q3ADE 3G supports several ways to integrate with your OSS and
business applications, including ODBC, XML, SOAP, CORBA, Q3/CMIP.
In recent business cases
you will see several examples of SNMP applications.
