CORBA/Q3 Agent/Manager Simulation
Telecom OSS developers often face the problem of getting access
to equipment, which supports the Management functionality they are
about to implement. Hence, it is very difficult to test the management
functionality of the Telecom OSS application. The answer to this
problem is to develop an agent simulator.
The Telecom Equipment vendors are faced with the same issue, although
reversed. They need management applications to test the agent functionality
in the equipment. Also in this case the answer to the problem is
to develop an agent simulator.
In both cases, it often becomes a very expensive overhead to the core
development. Few managers appreciate the need for developing comprehensive
amounts of code just for testing.
Solution
The Q3ADE 3G provides
a script driven simulator development environment both for Agent
simulation and Manager simulation.

The Q3ADE 3G (being a server)
enables you to compile and load a Q3 Model (in GDMO/ASN.1) dynamically
into the platform and add your own behavior patterns by means of
scripts. You need no other tool, compiler or equivalent.
The Q3ADE Advanced Developer allows
you to develop behavioural patterns in C++. This may normally only
be necessary for performance reasons. But it is also the direct
path to implement the actual behaviour in an embedded
Q3ADE agent.
The Q3ADE Gateway Developer additionally
allows you to develop CORBA Server simulators, hence testing a CORBA
based management application.
Benefits
As CMIP Agent/Manager development environment, the Q3ADE 3G provides
features that will reduce the effort of developing simulators significantly:
- Pre-implemented agent functionality. Q3ADE offers a wide
range pre-implemented functionality supporting the ITU Standards
like X.721-X.739, M.3100, etc. The 3GPP ADK provides additional
pre-implemented 3GPP specific simulation functionality. Saves
a lot of implementation effort.
- Script driven agent/manager behaviour development. Q3ADEs
flexible object oriented scripting tool LMIF enables you to develop
simulation of agent functionality as embedded event-driven object
behaviour. The script driven behaviour may be tuned without recompilation
or re-linking, i.e. enables a very short test/development cycle.
- Detailed protocol tracing. Q3ADE provides numerous tracing
facilities that enable you to dissect and locate interoperability
problems on the various protocols.
- Interactive graphical test platform. The included Q3Browser,
a graphical test/development tool provides a range of powerful
test support functions, like the treeview, the event log, the
operation recorder and the context rich support of management
operations (e.g. context help on attribute level).
Using Q3ADE 3G for CORBA/Q3 Agent simulation provides you with
the following benefits:
- Reduced project interdependencies between development
tracks. Early development of Agent simulator with close-to-reality
behaviour for management application testing decouples of Equipment
development and Management Applications development.
- A seamless transition path from a simulator (or prototype)
agent to a real agent saves development time and eliminates late
interoperability problems.
- The simulator may be forwarded to 3rd party as a prototype
and for off-line interoperability tests.
- Early visibility. The Q3Browser provides an out-of-the
box graphics interface to demonstrate your agents capabilities
through graphic animation.
